2nd Installment property tax bill to arrive on time, a first since 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic

June 26, 2024 4

Cook County's Second Installment 2023 tax bills go out next week, marking the first time since 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic property owners will see their second bill arrive on time.

Not just the pandemic but technological problems were to blame for years of protracted delays, causing the bills — which County homeowners already pay a year in arrears since the late 20s — to arrive months late.

Now, it appears as though we can say the County Assessor's Office has returned totally to normal operation.

In the 2023 reassessment of the South and Western Suburbs of Cook County, assessments increased by an average of 39% across all residential class 2 property.

With the calculation of these second installment bills, we will at last know how much of a percentage-point increase in taxes that assessment increase caused.

Property owners may pay bills online at the Cook County Treasurer's website or mail a check. Payment is due by Aug. 1, 2024.

This year, the City of Chicago and all its properties is under reassessment. So far, just Rogers Park and West Chicago have been reassessed, respectively seeing average levels of increase of 32% and 27%.

If you did not file an appeal last year and own property in the South or Western Suburbs, or, even more importantly, if your property is in Chicago, please plug your property into our patented tax savings calculator, and see if PTS can help ease your burden this year.
